Switzerland - Extension of EU social security regulations to include moves between Switzerland and Romania/Bulgaria |

Key issues
Romania and Bulgaria were the last two countries to join the European Union on 1 January 2007. In doing so, the current European social security regulations that govern the social security position for internationally mobile employees moving between EU countries became applicable to Bulgaria and Romania.
Switzerland, not being an EU member state, had to independently ratify the extension of the regulations to include Bulgaria and Romania. This has now been concluded and from 1 June 2009 the European social security regulations will now apply to moves between Switzerland and these countries. |
